Several streets near the State Capitol Complex will be closed Sept. 14-16 to accommodate the thousands of veterans, visitors, and volunteers who will be in Pierre for the Vietnam War Memorial Dedication activities.

Streets will be opened as soon as possible as conditions allow, such as the conclusion of the parade and dispersion of participants. With the exception of the streets immediately surrounding the Capitol complex, many will be opened by Saturday evening, with the remainder opening Sunday.

Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7 a.m.
• Nicollet Avenue is closed from Church St. to Capitol Ave.
• South Dakota Boulevard is closed from Church St. to the Capitol Complex
• Governors Drive is closed from Church St. to Broadway Ave.
• Wells Avenue is closed from where it intersects with Capitol Ave. to the east entrance of Capitol Lake Plaza.
• Circle drive in front of the State Capitol Building is closed
• Prospect Avenue is closed from Highland east to the Capitol Complex
• Broadway Avenue is closed from Nicollet Ave. to Washington Ave.

Friday at 12:01 a.m.
• Capitol Avenue is closed from Highland to Court Place
• Gravel parking lot south of Georgia Morse Middle School is closed for tour bus parking.
• Ree Street is closed at the south side of the railroad tracks

Friday at 6 a.m.
• Governors Drive is closed from Fourth Street to the Cultural Heritage Center driveway

Friday at 7 a.m.
• Church Street is closed from Nicollet to Governors Drive
• Broadway Avenue is closed from Madison to Washington for limited mobility access only

Friday at noon
• Alley between Washington and Court Place at the intersection of Capitol Avenue is closed

Friday at 6 p.m.
• West entrance to the Kneip Building parking lot off Governors Drive is closed
• Intersection at Governors Drive and east side of Church Street is closed
• Broadway Avenue is closed at the intersections with Jefferson, Adams, and Washington
• Governors Drive is closed from Fourth Street to Cabot

Saturday at 12:01 a.m.
• Capitol Avenue is closed at the intersections with Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison
• Cabot Street is closed at the intersection with Jefferson
• Jefferson Avenue is closed from Church to Capitol
• Robinson Avenue is closed from Madison to Jefferson
• All entrances to the Governor’s Residence are closed

Saturday at 6 a.m.
• Church Street is closed from Jefferson to Nicollett
• Cabot Street is closed at the interaction with Madison
• Temporary street closures along Monroe Avenue at the intersections of Church, Robinson, Broadway, and Cabot to allow motorcycles to pass through

Saturday at 7 a.m.
• Court Place and the alley to the east of Court are closed at Wells Avenue

For the safety of all in attendance no unauthorized vehicles will be allowed on the Capitol Complex, including privately owned golf carts, scooters, ATVs, motorcycles, and other motorized vehicles. Vehicles must have the appropriate vehicle pass from event organizers to operate at any of the event venues and around the Capitol Complex.

Attention:
For the safety of all in attendance -- no unauthorized vehicles will be allowed on the Capitol Complex including privately owned golf carts, scooters, ATVs, motorcycles, etc.  Vehicles must either have the appropriate vehicle pass or identifying marking as designated by the Transportation/Parking Committee on the vehicle to operate at any of the event venues and around the Capitol Complex.  
 
 
PARKING INFORMATION
 
Remote FREE parking areas with FREE shuttle service to the Capitol Complex are designated along all the major routes to Pierre and Ft. Pierre.  Please be at the parking area or bus stop at least 30-45 minutes prior to any major event start time.  All the parking areas will be staffed both days.  Law Enforcement will be patrolling the parking areas on a regular basis.  Watch for signing along the highway near Pierre and Ft. Pierre and follow the directional signing to the parking area.  Secondary parking area are also designated and will be opened as needed, watch directional signing for routing to the secondary parking areas.  All the primary parking areas are color coded as listed below: 
 
        BROWN LOT (STANLEY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS/EXPO BUILDING) --
                                   SOUTH HIGHWAY 83 (I-90 ACCESS)
  
        PINK LOT (FT. PIERRE) -- WEST HIGHWAYS 14/34
 
        GREEN LOT (MOODIE IMPLEMENT) -- EAST HIGHWAY 14 AND NORTH
                                 HIGHWAY 83
 
        PURPLE LOT (HILLSVIEW PLAZA) -- EAST HIGHWAY 34
 

  Also there is shuttle service from Farm Island and Oahe Downstream:
 
        YELLOW LOT (OAHE DOWNSTREAM -- CAMPGROUND #1 & #3)
 
        ORANGE LOT (FARM ISLAND)

The shuttles from the parking areas will run both Friday, September 15th and Saturday, September 16th on a fixed schedule with pick-up at the major parking areas approximately every 15-20 minutes each hour.  Shuttles will depart from South Dakota Boulevard (Hub on the Capitol Complex) approximately every 15-20 minutes each hour.  Some routes have hourly pick-up.

LIMITED MOBILITY PARKING
 
The Limited Mobility Parking area is Riggs High School.  To receive a limited mobility parking pass, click here for more information. 
 
 
 
IN-TOWN SHUTTLE/BUS STOPS
 
The in-town shuttle serves the local motels and provide transportation to the downtown business district and restaurants.  The in-town bus stops will be staffed at peak times.  Shuttle services are FREE.  Please be at the parking area or bus stop at least 30-45 minutes prior to any major event start time

TOUR BUS PARKING
 
Designated parking is available for buses of tour groups including Veteran groups attending dedication events. If you have Veteran participants in the parade, the bus designated parking is the Tour Bus parking.

High school or college band parade participants park where designated by the Parade Committee. Veteran Groups participating in the parade should park in the Tour Bus parking.

There is designated parking for volunteers and state employees as follows:

State Employees and Volunteers are encouraged to carpool and take advantage of the shuttle service.
